Healthy Boundaries

When you have to empty the dishwasher it’s clear what you have to do. You need no motivational speech, no acceptance something, no support, no commitment for 2021. You just do what you have to do.

But what to do, if you wanted to lose weight and safe the planet? That is a task quite overwhelming because you probably have no clue what you have to do.

Let’s take a look at the dishwasher together and see what there actually is to do.

The EAT-Lancet Commission on Food, Planet, Health brought together 37 world-leading scientists from across the globe to answer this question:

Can we feed a future population of 10 billion people a healthy diet within planetary boundaries? The answer is yes, but it will be impossible without transforming eating habits, improving food production and reducing food waste.“ (https://eatforum.org/eat-lancet-commission/)

That picture shows you how North America is eating right now. The 100% circle marks the Health Boundary, what would be healthy to eat for humans and healthy for the planet. Because we have to grow the food somewhere and somehow and that should be healthy for the planet. You find the graphic in the Summary Report
(https://eatforum.org/eat-lancet-commission/eat-lancet-commission-summary-report/).

You can tell that this diet is lacking in vegetables, fruits and legumes so it’s lacking in a  vast of nutrients. This kind of diet is creating overweight because in order to eat the necessary amount of nutrients one has to overeat on energy. And most of the time the need is not even met. By increasing the intake of vegetables, fruits and legumes people increase the intake of nutrients and can then reduce the energy intake. For more information watch this video.

The steps to do are:

  • Reduce the intake of red meat, starchy vegetables, eggs, poultry and diary food
  • Increase the intake of fish, vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains and nuts

Eating healthy, losing weight, having a positive impact on the planet go hand in hand.

But how to do it?

Putting a healthy balanced diet on the table every single day is a task one can master. Just like emptying the dishwasher. It’s not as easy but you also don’t need to go to university to learn it. You know, I always compare it to reading and writing. A very small skill that opens countless doors once mastered. But it also takes time, focus and commitment to learn it. If you want to go the easy road and don’t want to teach it yourself, you can find my course Wisdom of food providing here.

You now know what to do, if you want to lose weight and safe the planet. You also know where you can learn the skill to achieve it.

I can teach you what, I can teach you how but you are the one that makes the change happen. I am counting on you.
