We're facing a pandemic of overweight and struggle with it's risks like diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure. If we keep doing what we're doing it will affect every one.

The American Academy of Pediatrics now recommends medication and surgery for children with obesity. It's a sheer act of desperation because the numbers of overweight people keep raising. It shows that the food pyramid and My Plate guidelines are not helping. These pictures show the food for one day but when we stand in the kitchen we don't want to dissect the pyramid in order to make food choices. That's way to complicated and therefore not helpful.

Let's be honest. We eat what is available. And if that food is also highly convenient we eat it even more. But those foods are causing the overweight. The only way to stop eating that food is to learn how to prepare a healthy meal in a convenient way.

My name is Lisa-Marie Hunstock and I have a masters degree in nutrition science. Within the last 10 years, I studied the diets of several cultures. I extracted a structure that can be applied at home, in a restaurant of if you travel.

Eating healthy is what we have to do to face the obesity problem. But we don't learn how to eat healthy in school. We might learn what healthy food is but we don't learn how to put it on the table every single day.
